Standing six feet tall, minus a foot and a half plus an inch, Baern looks to be a typical dwarf, short, stout and full of all sorts of obvious social misgivings such as the grin he wears as he looks at you.  Never condescending, as some might say but just very liberal with the truth about his observations.  He speaks easily in the common tongue but when angered or fighting, his blustering brogue and excessive swearing remind you who you're dealing with immediately.  You hear him before you see him but when you do, he is a sight to behold, not a spectacle.  Regal almost and quite proud, just in his stance and straight backed spine.
His clothes are fine linen, stylish yet functional, with not a trace of leather from head to toe.  Silken ribbons and even laces adorn the “buttons” in his shirt as well as the silver clasped buckles of his armored boots, which he seems to wear with everything.  He could easily be mistaken for a bard if not for his rough voice and the fact that he uses his maul as an everyday tool and source of amusement.  Easily pulling a chair leg from under a rivaled foe or new friend, he uses it by hooking the leg.  Just as easily smashing it to pieces with a great, yet smooth, low, swing, it would be just as common a sight to be seen.
It is only when he dons his armor, an ancient set of plate, that he truly shines among almost any creature.  Perfectly fit to his form, it is functional but very well crafted by a smith of the greatest skill.  As all know, armored plate is several pieces put together in such a way to protect the wearer, when fully adorned, yet this suit is an extension of him, looking to be one single part, that he slips his body.  Some say that he grew, out of, rather into it, though both ideas are preposterous.  Despite its great age, not a single scratch can be seen, just a shining work of art, looking to be several inches thick.  Upon closer inspection, one would see it’s just a dwarf in armor, a very scary warrior, carrying both a huge maul and longer greatsword.
Not wearing a helm, one would think the user is less protected but baring your teeth in anger or jest, can be just as fearsome.  A dwarf placing his helm on his head, slowly, while staring at his opponent or friends, is no less intimidating as anyone knows that when a dwarf is ready for battle, you had better be as well.
